| Friends of Somerset Churches and Chapels What we do We foster interest in our heritage of churches and chapels and raise money to keep them in good repair. The main aim of the Trust is to pass on its income as soon as possible to churches and chapels in need. There are some 700 places of worship in use in Somerset, often in tiny villages where congregations are sparse. Many are beautiful old buildings needing repair - repair that is today more frequently necessary and more costly. Smaller congregations need a wide circle of friends - such are the Friends of Somerset Churches and Chapels whose purpose is to provide advice, encouragement and financial help where needed. We raise money from membership subscriptions, legacies, gifts and donations and events. A capital fund has also been established to provide additional income. The Trust supports the annual Ride and Stride organised in conjunction with the National Churches Trust, which is held in most counties every September. Other forms of fund-raising are included in the annual Programme of Events. Our target … to raise enough money for an annual budget of £50,000 plus in grants. We need your support now ! 'Our record… since its founding in 1996 the Trust has been able to offer grants approaching a total of £500,000 to churches and chapels throughout the county.' |
