Grants April 2006 - April 2007

Since April 2006 the Friends of Somerset Churches and Chapels have offered financial assistance totalling £42,250 to 25 churches and/or chapels in Somerset.

April 2006

  • Bishop Sutton, Holy Trinity: £500 for repairs to roof, rainwater goods and ceilings.
  • Bridgwater, Christchurch Unitarian: £2,500 for repairs to leaded lights, ferramenta and stonework of façade.
  • Chedzoy, St Mary: £5,000 for repairs to external walls.
  • Easton-in-Gordano, St George: £1,000 for repairs to plaster on internal walls.
  • Taunton, St Peter, Lyngford: £1,000 for repairs to roofs and ceilings.

    July 2006

  • Bridgwater, St John: £1,000 for lead and slate repairs to roofs.
  • Flax Bourton, St Michael & All Angels: £500 for re-pointing to walls of tower and church.
  • Larkhall, Bath, St Saviour: £2,000 for stone parapet repairs to nave and chancel.
  • Lansdown, Bath, St Stephen: £2,000 for feasibility study towards tower repairs.
  • Beckington, St George: £1,000 for stone tiling to south nave roof.
  • Bridgwater, St Mary the Virgin: £2,000 for stonework repairs to north side.
  • Kittisford, St Nicholas: £1,000 for lead replacement to tower roof.
  • Luccombe, Blessed Virgin Mary: £2,000 for tower repairs - roof and re-pointing.
  • Nempnett Thrubwell, Blessed Virgin Mary: £500 for stone repairs to tower and weathervane.

    October 2006

  • Hemington, Blessed Virgin Mary: £750 for tower and side aisle roof repairs
  • Stoke-sub-Hamdon, Blessed Virgin Mary: £1,000 for repairs to renders on south wall
  • Treborough, St Peter: £5,000 for repairs to slate roof and wall render
  • Walton, St Mary: £500 for stone replacement to tower plinth

    January 2007

  • Charlton Adam, St Peter and St Paul £2,500 towards the cost of repairs to their tower roof.
  • Upton Noble, St Mary Magdalene £2,500 towards the cost of repairs to their nave roof.

    April 2007

  • Ash Priors, Holy Trinity: £2,000 for repairs to Nave roof & South slope of North aisle
  • Chipstable, All Saints: £500 for repairs to tower windows
  • Doulting, St Aldhelm: £500 for plaster repairs and removal of acrylic paint to South transept walls.
  • Mudford, St Mary the Virgin: £3,000 for repairs to Nave roof, parapets. copings etc plus nave ceiling & conservation of wall paintings
  • Bath, Larkhall, St Saviours: £2,000 for repairs & stone replacement to North finials & parapets

    Note: Friends of Somerset Churches and Chapels is an independent, non denominational trust formed to raise money and make grants for the repairs of churches and chapels which are open for worship in the ancient historic county of Somerset. It exists to encourage greater interest and involvement by all members of the community, whether church going or not, in the magnificent heritage of these fine buildings. Income is derived from membership subscriptions, legacies, gifts and donations and also from funds raised by the Bicycle Ride which is held on the second Saturday of September each year.
